Blood Work

Menstrual blood photogrammed on light-sensitive paper, various sizes, 2014.

Every month, life and death potentials emerge in the female body. Entangled, both cannot physically live together at once. Blood Work is a self-research in which I took my menstrual blood, identified with death, and gave it a new context: Mining the material from within me, painting with it in the dark, exposing it to the light and transforming it into art was an act of devotional love and love- is life.

Directly corresponding with the radical feminist artists of the 70's, this work is a homage to the greatest- Carolee Schneemann.
