Dynastic Dialog
Retrospective cooperation with the late Hofshia Hafner, color books and colored pencils, 29x29.5 cm, 2021-present
All her life my grandmother practiced creative work, even as an old women. In the last few years before her death in November 2022, while sitting in the geriatric department of her nursing home, she would color in color books. As her communication abilities deteriorated, so did her coloring become pale and incomplete. In the year before she died I started collecting her finished unfinished books and complete the coloring myself. The pale spaces I left as they were- she visited them, left her mark, whether the way she wanted to or not. Sometimes I colored pale too, like her. I'm not sure she'd approve of what I did and that's why I never showed it to her, but she might have really loved it. In the end it became a body of work, a cooperative work in retrospect.
