The Meadow
Installation, growing Maidenhair ferns on plastic bins with moss, 15X75X200 cm, 2020
Maidenhair ferns were known to me as Shulamit's Hair ferns. I saw them in nature as a child, I was told their tale.
Folklore stories comprise our culture; they give us land to refer to and they define the rules for our society. Challenging them is like pulling the ground beneath our feet. Nowadays, people have other ways of learning about the world. Oftentimes, traditions get lost as this modern era extremes but sometimes- the opportunity to learn beyond our designated scope is taken and a new folklore is revealed, a different one- for the same thing.
What does it mean about the world?
An installation work made of plastic bins placed upside down, next to one another, on top one another. On the bins, that have become completely dysfunctional after losing their ability to contain, I planted maidenhair ferns- plants that can grow without soil. Strange to one another, the plants manage to live as if the plastic is their ground.
