The Story of Shulamit's Hair Fern
Documentary video art, single channel, 09:14 minutes, 2020-present
What is a memory? How does it form? How does it root in our consciousness?
The Story of Shulamit's Hair Fern was told to me by my mother in our family trips to nature. After I moved to the US , I asked her to tell it to me again but the one detail she changed changed everything and got me wondering about the origin- the story's as well as mine's.
Folklore stories have a lot of power: They appropriate the local land and define social rules. Challenging them is pulling the rug under our feet. In the work, a folklore story is collapsing into itself as its being told. While starts as private, it touches the socio-political-geographical conflicts that lie in the foundation of Israeli society.
